Muscle Memory

In the spirit of trying to be healthier, I have been making an effort to exercise more and be active. I took my son to hit some tennis balls yesterday. I haven’t played any real tennis since high school. But it’s surprising how much muscle memory is retained, even after many years of neglect.

If our muscles remember how to hit a good forehand, I wonder how much emotional memory we also have. I find that many of my friends and I are similarly going through the stage in life when we are tired, often cranky, and mostly overworked. Being carefree and cheery seems like a distant memory.

Perhaps happiness, like physical fitness, takes effort and commitment. Maybe feeling happy starts with a routine and mindset of seeking joy and letting go of negativity.

I want to flex my happiness muscle memory and be emotionally fit. Wake up optimistic; put aside all my worries and be joyful.
